Maya Angelo born to Marguerite Ann Johnson on April 4, 1928) is an American autobiographer and bard who have been called "America's most evident black feminine autobiographer" by scholar Joanne M. Braxton. She is best renowned for her sequence of six autobiographical volumes, which aim on her childhood and early mature individual experiences. The first and most highly acclaimed, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1969), notifies of her first seventeen years. Her father, Bailey Johnson, was a doorman and navy dietitian. Her mother, Vivian (Baxter) Johnson, was a real land parcel agent, taught surgical doctor, and subsequent a merchant marine. Angelou's older male sibling, Bailey Jr., nicknamed Marguerite "Maya", shortened from "my-a-sister". The minutia of Angelou's life recounted in her six autobiographies and in many interviews, talks, and items are inclined to be inconsistent. Her biographer, Mary Jane Lupton, has clarified that when Angelou has voiced about her life, she has finished so eloquently but unofficially and "with no time journal in front of her" It conveyed her worldwide acknowledgement, and was nominated for a National Book Award. She has been bestowed over 30 honorary degrees and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her 1971. (Peter, 2009)
