The rate of aging of the population has grown significantly as a result of extending life and reducing fertility. With it has increased the proportion of people who are dependent to perform routine activities of daily living. The purpose of this work on this issue is twofold. On the one hand, to establish what the current situation in Spain of dependency and long-term care, assessing the role of the family, the public sector and the market. (Kane & Kane, 1987) The family contribution is predominant, although with clear prospects decreased by changes in family structure and the role of women in society, while Spain is notable for the scarcity of public provision in the long-term care . The second purpose of the study is to analyze the prospects in terms of future cost of long-term care. The estimate of this cost the authors move to consider possible ways of providing for its funding, introducing international experience and possible travel to our country. (Norton, 2000)
Options for Long-Term Care
The two types of long-term care available to the elderly and individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease are assisted living and nursing homes (also known as skilled nursing facilities). (Infeld & Kress, 1995)
