Lighting Design - Lobby

Introduction

Lobby in any structure of the world tends to have an immense importance since it welcomes the individual and gives him or her idea about how the whole structure is. The lobby of the any structure tends to shape up the views of the person coming in regard to that structure. Therefore immense importance is given to the design and construction of the lobby, irrespective of any part of the world. The foremost thing which tends to have an impact on an individual is the lighting (Mark & James, p.124). Since lighting tends to appeal directly to the conscious mind of the human being therefore different tools and techniques are adopted to shape or craft the lighting as per the spirit of the design.

Lighting is also considered important because it is the foremost thing which strikes the visual conception of the human beings other than anything else. Even the aesthetics adopted by the design falls second in the line. Different structures tend to have different connotations attached o the lobby. Thus, uses different tools to design this ever important structure. Some use glass to decorate the lobby. Some use windows to do so and there are various techniques inculcated by the different people to design the lobby. However, some of the common types of lobby include halls, foyers, and security screening areas that are close to the re-entrance of the facility.

Discussion

As indicated above lobby tends to act as the foremost factor which helps to shape the perception of the individual. Thus, in order to do so lobby tends to have different elements attached to it which will be discussed in the course of this section. However, the foremost factor is shaping up the perception tends to remain lighting but it does require the support of the other additional elements.

Aesthetics

It is an important factor when it comes to shaping up the lobby and there are different elements which need to be addressed when inculcating various elements into the lobby. The word aesthetics itself has different connotations attached to it. However, it can only be defined in response to the spirit of the structure. Aesthetics tend to guide the whole structure since it act on the additional elements associated to the spit behind the whole structure. It tends to reflect in the entrance of the whole structure, it tends to reflect in the exit of the structure, it tends to reflect in the lobby of that structure, it tends to reflect on very other part of that structure (Roger, p.44). Aesthetics also tends to guide the lighting irrespective of the part of the structure. However, lobby and aesthetics does tend to have a very deep relationship since aesthetics is mostly inculcated in the lobby so that the person who is coming in that structure gets a view which seems to attract him or her towards the whole structure.
