My current role and responsibilities as a Systems and Information Manager within the Housing Department includes writing reports and responding to the contractors regarding any disrepairs issues dealing with these issues requires finesse and high standards of literacy since I send letters to the clients regarding the actions taken by the council pertaining to their complaints. Based on the nature of my work I frequently have to interact with various people from different backgrounds, what is important is ensuring that while interacting with these people, I am presenting myself accurately and making sure that the clients understand what is being done regarding their complaints, in cases where for instance the council does not have many options and the complaint needs to be placed to another council I consider it my responsibility to properly guide the clients have help them step by step understand how to reach the required person. My job has thoroughly familiarized me with the housing needs and the homelessness crisis prevailing. The legislature surrounding my area of work is the DPA which is the Data Protection Act and the FOI Freedom of information.
The Data protection Act 1998 is a part of the UK parliament, this act provides laws on the processing and maintaining of any data related to an identifiable living people, the major concern of this act is to bring the UK law parallel to the European data protection directive which mandates it to protect People's rights to privacy while processing any personal data. This act is basically a way to control information about them. The major principles of this act are as follows:
Processing of any personal data shall be done fairly and lawfully
The personal data will be obtained for a specific lawful requirement and will not in any condition be further processed in any circumstance.
The personal data provide will be according to the requirement
Personal data provided should be up to date and accurate
The personal data obtained will only be kept until the fulfilment of the requirement
People have the right to have any personal data removed at any time
For any unlawful processing of personal data serious actions will be taken
Personal data cannot be transferred from one place to another (Legislature, 1998).
