Thesis Statement

One of things that made life in America hard for Native Americans was Dawes Act of 1887. The Dawes Act stated that Native Americans would be given 160 acres of land per household, and that they had to farm it. The Act was the failure. The Dawes Act was the negative thing in Native American life. The paper will be discussing issues related to problems faced by African Americans. (Brabeck 2003)

Introduction

The struggle for equality for Americans of African descent continues despite significant advances made during 1950's and 1960's. The question arises as to whether struggle for Civil Rights has actually benefited descendants of many who sacrificed jobs, properties, reputations, and even their lives. Body: Discussion and Analysis

Since this nation's birth, i.e., European discovery of new world, Blacks, with exception to native American Indians, have suffered disproportionately more than any other group. They did not own slaves, so why should they feel any guilt over something that happened 100, 200, or 300 years ago? When one thinks of Civil Rights movement, we initially think of non-violent demonstrations only forty years removed. From boycott of Montgomery bus system to civil rights march on Washington, D. C., visions are forever implanted in minds of most Americans. The struggle for civil rights, however, did not begin with Rosa Parks or effort to desegregate public school system in Topeka, Kansas. We would be remised if we ignore earlier struggles that laid an immovable foundation for freedom and equality in America. The real struggle for civil rights actually began nearly four ...
