Although known as 2 Clement, the document is actually an anonymous homily of mid-second century. The author quotes from a document of the sayings of Jesus. As the author reveals features of Matthew and Luke, it is assumed that this author had access to harmony (Eileen, 1989).

It was written by the author (s) of 1 Clement and, in fact, not a letter but a sermon on self, repentance and trial.

Scholars have noted the "synoptic type" Jewish piety of the sermon, perhaps surprisingly; around the year 140 to 160 (approximate date of the letter). ...
