Introduction
Since the early 80s, many studies have tried to focus on the personal characteristics of the leader. Leadership is a term that has been very full of adhesions management far removed from the values educational institutions and the first contributions were driven by the consideration that it was linked to the traits and characteristics of the leader. The tendency to move beyond technical models, hierarchical and rational to go to approaches that emphasize the cultural aspects, moral, symbolic of leadership is reflected, particularly around the 90, in the notion of transformational leadership, a concept originated in the business and soon moved to the field of education. This "new leadership" is charismatic leadership, visionary, transformative, more flexible and inclusive and democratic community. Which in Instead of emphasizing the extent of influence on the followers or the management, focuses on the line of exercise meanings through leadership (vision, culture, commitment, etc..) in a shared with members of an organization.
Approaches are interested in transactional exchanges that are part of a logical transaction between the manager and the subordinate. A transactional leader focuses on "ways to maintain and improve the level and quality of performance of his subordinates." This approach contrasts with the transformational approach where leadership is defined as "a process that causes a mutual commitment of the leader and the subordinate"Transformational leadership is characterized by the ability to produce substantive changes. Transformational leaders are able to undertake the changes in vision, strategy and culture of the organization and also to promote innovations in products and technologies.
The objective
