Leadership Process and Theories

Introduction

Leadership is as old as humanity, since it arose through evolution and even before that there were leaders. Some researchers also claim that one can even assign leadership to objects that have no life (Dereli, 2010). No doubt everyone is familiar with the concept of leadership as it leads and serves as a support for others. However, it is also a fact that leadership is recognised through the perspective of different theories that exist in the social sciences and management (Cole & Kelly, 2012). It has been seen in many organisations that leaders have no or small amount of time to perform a task that would teach others and help them grow in their work environment. In addition, it is also a fact that those who ignore to adopt any leadership style are unfortunately missing the opportunity to use a very powerful and effective tool of leadership in relation to the organisational climate and performance of their people (Dereli, 2010). No one can deny the fact that earlier research on leadership theories and styles is of great importance but a significant criticism can also be seen on these leadership theories.

Discussion

Every theory of leadership allows individual to lead to accumulate more and decrease their ego in order to inspire others and motivate them (Dereli, 2010). The most important thing to know is that most of the researchers with the three perspectives that leadership is a process or relationship, leadership is a combination of traits of personality, and leadership is a set of certain behaviours. It has been seen that leadership in organisations is generally considered as power but the changing environment through globalisation reveals that leadership is above the power. In fact, it allows organisations to achieve their goals and have the pleasure of making business successfully even in the tough competitions or other organisational crisis through the ability of leaders. I believe that leadership can be seen as a dynamic but complex process that is vital for every organisation.

Style Approach and its Criticism

The research on style theory or approach has not shown how leaders' styles are associated with performance outcomes. In addition, the style approach has failed to find a universal style of leadership that could be effective in almost every situation. Further, the style approach indicates that the most effective leadership style is the high-high style (high task and high relationship). However, several research findings do not agree with this and argue that certain situations may require different leadership styles (Northouse, 2012). This theory was applied much sects, dictatorships ... is to submit to a leader with supernatural powers or is El Salvador of all and without it we would be lost. Not bad you highlight the strengths of a leader that is what is usually done in companies, some politicians ... what happens to the "magnification leader" is precisely what the Kings did in history.

Situational Approach and its Criticism
