Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

Abstract

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in interpreted as a system for classification of ecological building, from the U.S. Green Building Council. In the context of this paper we tend to identify the areas which will equip the building to achieve the LEED credits in “Energy Efficiency and Atmosphere”. This paper will also inculcate some of the materials which if used can further help the cause. This will help to understand the subject in a much more effective way.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

Introduction

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in interpreted as a system for classification of ecological building, from the U.S. Green Building Council. It was established in 1998 as it tends to identify a set of standards for environmentally friendly, resource-saving and sustainable building. It consists of a set of rules on the use of strategies for sustainability in buildings of all kinds. It is based on the incorporation in the proposed aspects of energy efficiency, use of alternative energy, improved indoor environmental quality, the efficiency of water use, sustainable development of the open spaces of the plot and the selection materials. There are four levels of certification: certified (LEED Certificate), silver (LEED Silver), gold (LEED Gold) and platinum (LEED Platinum). In this paper the carbon molecules tends to be used as the construction of a new technology.

The certification in intended to elevate the utilization of strategies to an overall improvement in the environmental impact of the construction industry (Jason, 2004). Today, LEED has become the system of environmental assessment of buildings in the world. However, the foremost objective of such a mechanism is to reduce the resources utilized by the construction sector moreover, it also stretches its self to raise community awareness about the environment. LEED as per today tends to b inculcated in commercial, industrial, institutional and residential buildings with multiple dwellings. This has allowed the LEED to become popular in different parts of the world. Although it tends to be an American crafted model but the fact needs to be kept in mind that its popularity in Canada has grew the most as pitched against the any other part of the world.

The fact becomes evident from the point that in Quebec , some buildings are LEED certified, such as TOHU the Chapiteau des Arts, the flag of Biological Sciences of UQAM , the Lassonde of the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal with a score of 46 (LEED Gold) (Charles, 2008). Thus, in the context of this paper we tend to identify the grounds and structures in order to incorporate LEED. This is however, done in order to develop a deeper understanding of the subject.

Discussion

Before moving further in the course of this paper it is important to identify the factors based upon which LEED tends to be promoted. In other words this section of the paper tends to develop an understanding ...
