Question 1 (a): Identify the personality traits you apply and provide examples of the application of these traits;

A leader is an individual who has the role of leading others. A leader can be considered as the captain of the ship. He leads and guides his or her team members in the right direction. Leading a team is a trait which is not possessed by everyone. It requires a number of leadership skills to make an effective and outstanding leader. According to the Trait theory, the leaders are born with leadership traits (Montana & Charnov, 2008, pp. 43). This theory discusses leadership physiological and personality traits. It identifies several general factors that differentiate leaders from non-leaders. The following chart highlights the major personality traits of a leader:

The personality traits that I apply are confidence, team spirit, skill, patience, reliability, enthusiasm and cooperation. All of these traits are necessary to manage a successful team. I always have confidence in my team and patiently handle their queries and problems. Once I was assigned a team of newly recruited individuals. We embarked on project together, but as all my team members were new, they were hesitant and there was little to none communication and team unity amongst them. I started calling frequent meetings so that all the team members interact with one another. I showed my enthusiasm on the project due to which my team also become excited and powered on working on their first project. I showed confidence and reliability on my team members as I allowed them to make certain decisions so that they felt that their opinions were valued. I patiently handled the team's problems and issues and cooperated with them in every way I can. The result was that our project was successful and we were appreciated by our seniors. This further created team unity and spirit amongst the team members and my team became stronger and productive.

Question 1 (b): Identify the dark side traits you apply and provide examples of situations when this occurs;

The dark side traits, according to research, are also essential for making a leader successful. The leaders with a dark side are a little step ahead of making their work done and in a proper way (Bolden, 2006, pp. 102). The dark side traits of the leadership include arrogance, domination, perfectionism, inflexibility, eccentricity, over-boldness, aloofness etc. The dark side leadership traits that I apply are dominance, inflexibility and perfectionism. Even though, I do provide my team with the opportunity to be innovative and creative. I have also provided them the authority to make certain decisions. However, I am a perfectionist and I want to assure myself that every little detail has been fulfilled. I go into little details which at many times my team members do not cover.
