Law enforcement and military has a sturdy job to perform. Combating terror and crime, overcoming risks all over the world, and making a protective environment for civilians to nurture and raise families and enjoy peace of mind. Law Enforcement technology has come up a long way since the days of the Old west Gunslingers. The technology beginning to breakthrough, and that which is on the horizon, is some of the most captivating that has ever been seen. Law Enforcement technology is taking great leaps forward, in some cases literally. This paper will highlight the technologies currently being implemented by the law enforcement agencies, and the technologies that might be implemented in future. These technologies can prove to be a force multiplier which improves effectiveness, efficiency, and office safety in a variety of ways. The added advantage of this technology is that the individuals using these equipments can give added productivity which will cause a boost in their morale (Snow, 2007).

Impact of technology

The pace of technological change in law enforcement agencies in former years is so swift that an individual might suggest that jobs that are hot cakes today might even not be existent after 10 years or so. Technological updates are changing the way law enforcement department functions, requests for grants are formatted, and operating budget is processed. Technologies that are prevalent in current years were not even known few years ago. It is important for the law enforcement officials to be in touch with the latest technological happenings that are part of their field. Officials must not only have an idea that what the latest technology is, but they must also focus on learning that how these technologies can help them to perform their job better. Executives of law enforcement agencies should have the option to identify any latest technologies and implement them in their departments if they found it useful enough (Conser et al, 2005).

Non technological issues

Law enforcement technology may be developing, but it has not altered the main responsibilities of law enforcement officials' jobs, they have to be vigilant and active all the time. Technology is playing a significant role in the bringing wonders to the world of Law enforcement institutions, but it is impossible to ignore the role of personnel working in it. Technology cannot be implemented if there are no individuals using it. In order to make proper use of technology, there must be adequate training of the users. The users must be conveyed the effectiveness that the technologies can bring to their jobs, they must be made aware that using these technologies in an effective manner can increase their productivity (Foster, 2004).
