LAN with two subnets or two LANs. In fact, the term LAN is not precisely defined, and usage varies.
The country hosts are connected via an Ethernet. One of the fundamental characteristics of Ethernet is illustrated in the diagram. All hosts on an Ethernet are logically connected to every other host: to communicate with any other host, a system sends a message out on the Ethernet, where it arrives at the target host in one step (one hop). By contrast, for the other network, messages between duncan and puck must be handled by two other hosts first, thus taking three hops. If this second network ran at the same speed as Ethernet (10 Mbps), then this would be a disadvantage; however, since it is an FDDI network (running at 100 Mbps), more hops are not significant.
The system romeo serves as a gateway between the two subnets. It is part of both subnets and passes data from one to the other. There are special-purpose computers that are designed to be gateways and nothing else, but many sites only add an additional network interface to a less-used workstation, as in this example.
LAN Default Gateway
The LAN router, (default gateway), is a character string with a maximum of 15 characters and a format of A, B, C, D, where A is between 0 and 223 , and B, C, and D are between 0 and 255, no embedded spaces are allowed. If the default gateway is set to a format not allowed with the LAN address or the subnet mask that have been selected, the default gateway will be set to a null string, indicated by a blank field on the test set display. The address may be manually set/viewed in the system configuration screen(Amies, 2012). The LAN default gateway can be set/queried using the SYSTem subsystem.
LAN Subnet Mask
The LAN subnet mask address is a character string with a maximum of 15 characters and a format of A, B, C, D, where A , B, C, and D are between 0 and 255. No embedded spaces are allowed. The address may be manually set/viewed in the system configuration screen. The LAN subnet mask address can be set/queried using the SYSTem subsystem.
The LAN subnet mask is a non-volatile parameter. The LAN subnet mask is not affected by any reset operation and can only be changed by direct access to ...
