In the juvenile justice system of the U.S., juvenile probation is considered to be the most commonly used practice of court orders. The offenders who are considered as low risk, who are usually first timers in crime are sent to probation instead of prison. Many times, after a formal mediation, youths voluntarily agree to comply with an informal probation. The juveniles who are subject to probation need to conform to certain conditions of probation, as set by the court (Brown, 1998).
