The Shoemaker and the Elves

I can observe that the purpose of the story is to depict that people who are thankful for what they have hardly feel any remorse on not doing so well financially. They would be content to have just the basic necessities of life and would be ready to face financial hardships without any grievances. A fairy tale written involving a poor shoemaker who receives assistance from elves. It was the assistance he desperately needed. The writer depicts his morale through his story which explains to the readers that if people are grateful for what they have, then there wealth would increase. The shoemaker makes a good gesture by first giving away a pair of shoes to a needy woman and then by facilitating a traveler with financial help for his trip. The writer portrays the help coming in the form of elves that help him out by stitching him shoes that sell higher than the usual price. The shoemaker is able to clear his rent, buy food and more shoe leather. Some of the amount was used to help a traveler. The writer tries to convey the message that since he helped a needy man, the elves helped him back in return by stitching him more shoes.

I think that the message the writer wants to convey through his story is that when things are not proceeding correctly for someone than the best way out is to think of things that the person already has. It helps people forget their worries when they realize that they have a lot to be happy about. The poor shoemaker does the same thing by remaining content at whatever he has instead of complaining. His wife adopts the same approach. The writer tries to show that when people try to remain happy at what they have then they will not be saddened by not being well of as the other rich people.

One of the main observations that can be drawn from this fairy tale is the need not to trust strangers. Looks and appearances can be deceitful. So can the apparently good attitude of a person be deceitful. People who are strangers often try to entrap others who are vulnerable on account of their distressful situation or some dire need. It is exactly this vulnerability of the children that the witch preys on. The children were lonely and hungry and needed the help of someone. The witch through her nice appearance and friendly nature appeared least susceptible to the children and preyed them into her trap.
