Journal Article Review on Childhood Sexual Abuse

Introduction

The term child abuse can be described as any damaging or unpleasant contact on the body of a child, and any sort of contact those results in humiliation, embarrassment, or threat to the child. The child abuse can be further categorized into four major parts; physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. Here we are emphasizing on sexual abuse in which the child is forcefully engaged in sexual activities, whether the level of violence is low or high. Such activities may include physical attack (rape or oral sex) or non-penetrative actions such as rubbing, touching, etc. Child abuse may also contain non-contact actions like involving or forcing a child in watching or producing sexual pictures, motivating a child to adopt sexually unsuitable behavior, etc. The dilemma of child sexual abuse is something serious for our community, state, and the entire nation.

It is estimated that before reaching the 18 years of age, one out four girls and one out of six boys will be subjected to sexual abuse. Amazingly, out of these victims less than one out of 10 will report the incident (Bolin & Patricia, 2009). Moreover, it would be safe to state that the topic of this paper is difficult to address on a number of levels because it strikes at the heart of what we normally perceive to be our advanced modern society and culture. The Western oriented system of free markets, democracy, and individual rights that has seemingly spread all over the face of the Earth, represents one of the greatest achievements of humanity and it is relatively short history as a species. Yet amidst an achievement, which has seen personal liberty become the ideal in so many societies and nations, there is also the enduring problem of dehumanization, exploitation, and the loss of dignity. We still live in a world where the strong exploit and oppress the weak. Perhaps the most disturbing phenomena in this regard is that of human abuse, specifically the abuse of women and children for use in the sex industry. This is nothing less than modern day slavery, something which cannot be tolerated or appeased if we are to maintain any semblance of those values of human liberty and dignity which so many have fought and died to expand and protect

However, the term sexual abuse do not limit itself to the contrary theory only rather it stretches itself to different other notions such as sex abuse and other similar notions.

Discussion

The paper will look at the various dimensions of the program and how it deals with the issue of childhood sexual abuse. It will then propose ways in which the program can be revised to make it more effective and how it can tie to other programs worldwide in order to combat the overall problem of Childhood sexual abuse.
