One of the best known and most beloved performers in the world, John Denver has received international recognition as a composer, singer, actor, environment and humanitarian. Music by John seized three decades have experienced countless musical trends, and has received numerous awards and honors music, including the 1996 appeal in the hall of fame composer and in 1993 the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Music Award.
Son officer U.S. Air Force career, John began after the family moved to Tucson, where for eleven years; he got a guitar of his grandmother. John eventually took guitar lessons and joined the choir boys, which led him at age 20, to take matters into their own hands and pursue his dream of a career in music.
In 1963 he went on his own, moving to Los Angeles to be at the center of a growing music scene. It was during this time that Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. called for friends to change his name if a career in music was to be in his future. His friends suggested the name John Sommerville, but he finally took the stage name of the beautiful Rocky Mountain capital city of Colorado, his home state.
John Denver experienced its first big break in the music industry when he was chosen from 250 other hopefuls as lead singer of popular Mitchell Trio. Two years and three albums later, John has honed his considerable vocal talent and developed his own song writing style. He soon gained recognition when his song Leaving on a Jet Plane written Peter, Paul and Mary, becoming their first and only number one hit.
Less than two years after the trio disbanded and John himself was climbing the pop charts with songs like "Take Me Home, country roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Sunshine on my shoulders," "Annie's Song", "Back Home Again "," Thank God I'm Country Boy "and" Calypso "," reinforcing its position as one of the main stars of this decade.
Denver's concert tours reached millions worldwide. The world embraced John - captivated by each new release, including 14 gold albums and 8 platinum albums in the U.S., as well as numerous gold and platinum sales overseas.
All this came as a reflection of personal growth and artistic evolution of John. On his third album in 1970, Jon social and political leanings were more clearly defined. John was one of the first artists to share environmental messages through his music, starting with the song "Whose Garden was it?". It was the first in a long series of songs that he writes about the environment.
Fans responded to his environmental and humanitarian message, heartfelt appeals to the land of peace and compassion, which were subsequently sent to a mild form in his records and concerts.
John was the first artist from the West to the multi-city tour of mainland China, in October 1992. He was somewhat surprised to find how popular and well known for his songs were in Chinese. "Country Roads," he said, "is the most famous song, written in the West.
