Preparing for a Successful JCAHO Visit

Preparing for a Successful JCAHO Visit

Some "Fun" Methods

Preparing for JCAHO survey, and hence for effective infection control, ultimately comes from the always "ready to review. However, it is more objective than a reality for many institutions. As a result, it is important that all key players to work together to solve each individual item of each element, as described in each of JCAHO standards, so that the object is always your best foot forward.

Thus, it leads to the development of the game plan to address each element and share of the plan with staff. It is important that staff know the plan and why it exists, they should know exactly what they should do and why they should do it. They do not need to know the details of the written standard (Christiansen, 2004).

Once a plan in place and staff were aware of it, try to survey the layout of the object. These work best unannounced because it will give the layout of surveyors a chance to see what is happening on a daily basis in the object, and not just when employees know that the survey goes. Include some of the staff in this survey process, it will give them the opportunity to learn more about the process, and hopefully they will share this knowledge with their colleagues.

Further, staff awareness can be developed using tools such as continuous training of staff through meetings, leaflets, posters and the like. Readiness can also be enhanced by informing residents and visitors, such as the importance of hand hygiene and encouraging residents to ask their teachers if they wash their hands. Teach the teachers that this issue is not an insult, but rather intended to ensure that everything remains safe, including myself.
