Japanese Migration to Hawaii
Introduction
For the purpose, and objective of understanding and comprehending the whereabouts of how can an individual keep track and pave way for highlighting the past trends that have prevailed during the migration of Japanese masses to the United States, particularly the state of Hawaii.
Background of the Research
Two main reasons has been identified in migration literature for this under representation of theoretical and empirical work on family migration and the consideration of family as less significant to the labor market. The first relates to the predominately economic theory focus of migration studies that takes the human capital approach and looks at the economic outcomes of migration based on the individual whereas family constitutes a private space whose activities are not measurable in economic terms. As a result, there has been less concern with the non-economic aspects of family migration such as family formation, marriage or quality of life. This concentration on the economic aspect of family migration has led observers to debate the rigor of these established theoretical understandings. Second, there has been an increasing interest in the gendered approach of migration and family has been considered as a secondary type of migration where female dependants join the male “primary” migrant.
