After the December 7, 1941 Japanese struck Pearl Harbor, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared Executive order. This act based on their ethnic background they permitted the military to bypass the constitutional safeguards of American citizens in the name of national defense. The declaration omitted people of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast from residing and working in certain locations. The internment of the Japanese American raised questions about the rights of American citizens as they were stated in the first ten amendments of the Constitution.
