Italy's Role and Place in the European Union

Abstract

In this writing, my main purpose is to highlight the importance of Italy in European Union. Italy has struggled a lot since centuries, but yet has managed to survive and help the member of European states to improve their economic and environmental conditions. All the European countries faced huge destruction after the World War II. All the resources were destructed, and damage was so intense that it took many years for the European countries to regain its important in the continent. Today, Italy like other 27 member of European Union plays a very important role in the overall functionality. Together with Italy European union is using all its resources and helping in the unification of Europe.

Introduction

For about thousand years, Italy has been the tower of strength of recognized personalities within its limitations. Since olden times, Italians have been a pioneer in almost every field. From the great voyager, scientist, composers, and legendary artists are the gems of Italy. Italy lies against the southern coast of Europe. It's a thin and extensive peninsula. In 1860,, the majority of the northern and central Italy voted to come together, but the pope did not favour unifying of Papal States with other parts. The United Kingdom of Italy was declared in March 1861. Victor Emmanuel II was the first king (Reich, 2005, p.7).

History of Italy

Italy has been ruled by royal leaders, popes, emperors and democratically designated heads and prime ministers. The nation has gone through good and bad times, from phases of astounding growth and progress, from splendour of the Roman realm and the exquisiteness of the Rena. In 509, B.C, first Roman republic was published. The republic was ruled by voted representatives rather than crowned heads, and the constitution disseminated political authorities by making the head of the republic liable to the governing body or parliament. Society of Romans was divided into three classes. The patricians landed gentry were at the top. Plebeians were next, the common inhabitants. At the bottom, of these classes were slaves (Koff & Koff, 2000, p.9-10).

Italians went through a lot, from the early conquests and from the times of Julius Caesar being the ruler of the state, they conquered many states and Caesar sustained the plebeians cause, and believed in equality among all. Italy was disintegrated into small states that had attained sovereignty from there rulers by the end of 12th century. They were colonized by flourishing merchants and expert artisans. The cities had well-built ties with the rest of Europe (Premur, p.5-6).

Government of Italy

A parliamentary republic has been established in Italy since 1946. It is currently governed by the constitution of 1948 which assures free will of vocalizations, contemplation and the press.
