Is prejudice innate or learned behaviour

Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to do a critical analysis on any issue addressed in the writing of Plato or Aristotle. For this purpose I have chosen the topic “Love” as being discussed by Plato in his writing “Symposium”. I have chosen this topic because this was the most famous issue being used by Plato in his writing symposium (Jowett, 1892). This novel was very much familiar in its time. Plato intentionally portrays some as ignorant and others as valid thoughts on the matter of love. Within the dialogue, the speakers told of the characteristics of the gods related to love as a definition of what love is. Within each of the lectures given, Plato presented certain messages he sought to communicate about love and its effect on people (ERYXIAS, 1892). The speeches started with Phaedrus who stated many of the powers of love. He spoke about honour between someone and their beloved as a great virtue in a relationship. The major point presented by Phaedrus's speech was that a man would rather suffer humiliation in front of many people or all of mankind itself than to suffer the loss of respect or the loss of dignity in front of their lover.

When passed into modern society, this idea creates two separate suggestions when related to the male female relationship and its stereotypes.

Supporting Thesis Statement

Plato described love in his writing as Love will make men dare to die for their beloved-love alone; and women as well as men.

Warrant

According to many authors this statement by Plato is absolutely correct as they also consider that love is the name of giving your life to your beloved.

Supporting Thesis Statement

This paper will focus on the statement by Plato Love is what we do with soul not with the body.

Warrant

The statement given by Plato is absolutely correct as love is not the name of only loving the body. It is basically a feeling for the soul.

Opposing Thesis Statement

Love is not the name for giving your life to someone.

Warrant

There are many people who argue that love is not the name of giving your life to your loved one.

Opposing Thesis Statement

Love is the name of loving someone's physical appearance not only the soul.

Warrant

Many authors are against the statement of Plato that love is basically a name of loving the soul not the body. They say that when person gets in love with someone he/she is also inspired by the physical appearance then he gets inspired with the soul.

Discussion

Love wants happiness and everything that is good for your loved one. Love does not want someone; it wants what is best for them. I don't care if he is with someone else, as long as he is happy. Knowing that he is happy is all I need (Jowett, 182). It's about sacrifice. I would make the ultimate sacrifice for my loved one. Not only would I take a bullet for him, but I would put a bullet in myself to protect him.
