Introduction
In today's society and towards our future there is a controversial statement that genetically engineered food may be the solution to feed the hungry in the world. Supporters believe that genetic engineered food will ensure and sustain food security all over the world as our population continues to grow (Hart, 2002). On the other hand there are concerns about the genetically engineered food. There are many researchers that believe that engineered food is not the solution to feed the hungry. In this paper, we will discuss the pros and cons about having genetically engineered foods, is it safe and an even bigger question is genetic engineering the answer to end global hunger?
Before weighing the pros and cons of genetically engineered food, people of today's society need to know what it is. Genetic Modification is a modernized technology that alters the genetic composition of organisms. The resulting genetically modified products may take contrasting forms such as; medicines and vaccines, variety of foods and related ingredients, and fibers (Easton, 2008). Scientists have learned and tested that there are ways of changing the structure of DNA in an organism and customize its DNA. Genetically engineered food is commonly used in crop plants which in turn are used for feeding humans or animals. These engineered plants have been modified to resist herbicides or to improve their nutritional content. Genetic engineering is undoubtedly increasing.
Genetic engineering has given a new way of increasing the variety of the food that consumed. The idea of combining the pollens of plants in order to produce a new crop is simply brilliant. By mixing these two different organisms together is supposed to give hybrid crop special characteristics. This means that the crop could be resistant to disease, have the ability to live in very harsh conditions and have more quantity of crop when it comes to harvest time. This shows how creative the science is in producing new inventions. Thus, genetic engineering has given the power of changing the basis of life on earth.

In the past, ten years, the world has seen many changes. The most incredible change or invention in these past ten years is genetic engineering. This has solved many problems faced by different people of different locality throughout the world (“Africa Group”, 2003). Genetic engineering is an invention that will certainly going to stay for forever. It has the capability of solving many contemporary environmental issues.
