Introduction

The first renaissance artist emerged in 1401, although, Giotto and Pisanos were admired and followed by many for their unmatched talent and skills. There was a competition on creating a sculptor of the bronze door Baptistery of Florence Cathedral. Seven amateur artists participated in the competition. These included Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Brunelleschi. Lorenzo Ghiberti was the winner of the competition.
