Introduction

The great pyramids of Giza were designed for Pharaoh Khufu. Just like many other Pyramids located in Egypt, the great Pyramid of Giza was built as a tomb for the great pharaoh. They were “to shelter and safeguard the part of pharaoh's soul that remained with his corpse”. They choose this particular shape based on a pointed sacred stone known as benben which symbolized the rays of the sun. They believed that the pharaohs reached the heavens via sunbeams. Today, the great pyramids have become a great tours attraction. What once was a sacred resting place for the Pharaoh's corpse is now a tourist attraction where you will find merchants, camel rentals and guides.
