Reflective Paper: Interpersonal Relationships

Introduction

This paper presents some reflections on interpersonal communication and influence that has some categories and forms of interpersonal perception of reality, produced by social mechanisms to promote homogeneity or vision "shared" human situations in a way such that collectively assume certain meanings and valuations of the behaviors. Although there are still many people who still think that there is only one reality, it is also a fact that some people believe more in the existence of multiple realities, especially when it comes to human situations. And it is necessary to analyze and reflect on them, among other things, to live life with a clear and critical consciousness, to guide our actions. (Cupach, 2004)

For these reflections, I refer to everyday life situations that would ordinarily pass by without we pay them much importance. Seem so "natural", i.e. unthinkable that might be otherwise they just do not stop to think about them. It is rather as something that happens seems to be out of the expected order and accepted by our society and culture that we are surprised; we get upset or puzzled us.

Thesis Statement

Part of the problem addressed here is raised precisely by the question that some psychologists said reduced interpretation concern only individual experiences, which may be explained and understood through the analysis of the interpersonal communication skills.

The Approach to the Issue

In the next table is a family as six people, who laugh and talk excitedly. They seem to enjoy their stay, food and walking. Suddenly, runs a child about eight years and loudly says, "And go! There are many mosquitoes." A group of people, apparently an aunt, she responds with force, saying: "Shut up boy, or I'll fuck him. Children do not give orders!” The boy, apparently confused or scared, his head slightly down and removed to other tables. The aunt, meanwhile, keeps saying: "what has been believed, rude kid. Now I want to give orders, to keep it that way and see how it goes!” The tone he says it appears threatening and challenging me, it even seems that the message is directed not only the child who arrived a while but the other children in the family and even adults. (Jablin, 2004)

I play and I guess it seems that the aunt wanted to make clear his position of authority in the family. And the rest of his conduct and expressions, seem to agree with her. So any one incident, everyday, seemingly inconsequential, can, however, serve as an excuse to do some thinking about how the cultural imaginary, representations and collective mechanisms can be present and influence the communication and connection between people.

Currently, many researchers and social science professionals accept that the knowledge of the realities is, in a very important process of building a cultural and personal. Change and differ from one society and culture to another, and throughout history. While it is true that there are significant similarities, we also found significant differences; ...
