This report has been written keeping in view the overall issues and problems faced by employees once sent on international assignments. It covers an in-depth analysis with practical examples from the real world. The whole study is based on foreign expatriates; their issues while staying in a foreign country and returning back to their home country. It provides awareness to the companies what actually Human Resource Department should consider in an individual while selecting him to send on an International Assignment.

Background

Diversification and increasing the horizon of the business is a corporate aim. Going international is necessary in order to increase the business operations. Similarly, to manage all the international dealings manger/managers are required depending on the business and its operations. Moving abroad and looking at the affairs is a challenging task. Although, many of the people try to move abroad and manage the affairs but it is highly very challenging for the Human Resource Department to select the correct person and send him/her to a foreign country. There are a number of things that has to be kept in mind while selecting an appropriate candidate to send him/her as a representative to the organization. Human resource department is an active department who fills the vacancies and keep it filled with suitable people; select them, recruit them, train them and then evaluate them as per their performances contributing towards the mission and vision of the company.

Discussion

In the article “The myth of International Manager”, author focuses on the International issues on the managers and their development. It has been assumed that companies of the 20th century are more focused towards globalization which leads to increasing interest in companies toward management of global jobs. Today, companies are required to develop more international managers. Moreover, a large number of professionals are interested in spending greater time in foreign countries rather than their home country. Rationally, it is very good to have a diverse perspective of managers imparting international experiences so to hone their skills at the workplace. International experience of managers lead to senior level positions in any multinational organization. This sounds good but like everything, it also has some pros and cons.

Issues related to International Management

Many companies need their managers to be groomed enough in order to work effectively in different areas around the globe. Some of the authors argue that the excellence of management in organizations also matters more importantly in international arena. Any kind of low performance will be of high cost to employees for their careers (Adler, N. 1986). It could even result in the liquidation to the overall international assignment if the company is new and unexperienced of the quality of the candidate they are sending to represent them.
