The novel 'Their Eyes were Watching' by Hurston was published in the year 1937, and has managed to become a highly regarded literary piece of the modern era. The novel tells the tale of the brave young woman Janie Crawford, who has to deal with an abundance of adversities in her life (Jordan, 1988). The environment described by the novel is set in the southern regions of Florida, where the racial tensions and the women's rights were highly prejudiced by the white male dominated society. Although one of the significant themes of the novel was the role of racism, but the crux of the tale was influenced by the role of the society as a whole. Janie's life was significantly influenced by external factors, which forced her to get married to a man she did not love.

Things Fall Apart by Nigerian author Achebe was published in 1958, and it describes the story of a hypocritical man Okonkwo, who was haunted by his humiliating family history. This history forced him to act more aggressive and confident, so that his villagers do not associate him with his cowardly and failed father. Okonkwo felt the weight of his family history, and throughout his life he attempted to differentiate himself from his father. The Pride and Prejudice by Austin was published in 1813, critically describes the nature of the English society during the early era, and the societal pressures women felt to get married. The point of interaction among all of the mentioned novels is the role of the society and it affect on the main characters.
