Introduction

I work in a Boarding School as a Practice Nurse and I have been assigned to look after the adolescence of age between 11 to 18 years. My duties consist, first, the initial treatment of injuries. Here the catalog is quite broad, ranging from lacerations, bruises, strains, sprains, bites (insect and even children), fractures, etc. Then many children suffer from allergies, vomiting, abdominal pain and headache, nosebleed, sore throat, cough etc. Almost daily I'll pick up children who are sick (fever, vomiting, malaise, etc.). Each week, a doctor comes into the school; together we make the "school medical examination. It is a service of the school, compulsory for all children. Here children are weighed and measured and an eye test is done. For each child, I have to establish a medical record.

The school provides health care, mass preventive measures and health education to school-age population. The level of education, competence and independence of nurses allows them to cater the needs and conditions of a particular school effectively and efficiently. As a practice nurse, the duties include: performing and interpreting screening tests, active counseling for students with health problems, active care of students with chronic diseases and disabilities, implementation of treatments and medical procedures necessary for the performance of the student in school, giving first aid in the event of sudden illness, injuries and poisonings. An important group of tasks is to advice the school on the safety of students, organization of food and sanitary conditions in the school, and participation in the planning, implementation and evaluation of health education (Steele, 2011, 128-137).

In recent years, the role and scope of school nurses and hygienists has expanded with the increase in parent's awareness regarding the health of their children. Speaking about the essence of preventive measures in the care of children and young people in residential institutions, it is worth recalling the role of family in the healthcare of their children. The family is the basic cell, which begins with the child's personality development through education. Nursing is a science and an art, has its own set of knowledge based on scientific theories and is focused on health and well being. Nursing is concerned with the psychological, spiritual, social and physical persons and not only the medical process in the patient diagnosed therefore, focuses on the overall responses of the person interacting with the environment. Nursing is considered as profession whose main aim is the provision of optimal health services, quality life and provision of care to individuals and families (Stalter, 2010, pp. 34-39). The job of a nurse is challenging and rewarding at the same time. The challenge lies in the risks associated with the job for the ailing patients and the reward lies in the self gratification and the mental piece that the person feels when he sees someone recover in front of his eyes. In this study, we will conduct an audit or a research study related to the role of nurse ...
