Introduction

Industrial melanism is a variant of melanism that is a particularly pronounced deposition of dark pigments - especially of melanin - the skin. The name came about after the peppered moth (Biston betularia), a moth , the end of the 19th Century English industrial areas, a drastic change in his appearance, was observed: Did the individuals before a light morphs were dominant, then a predominantly dark-colored individuals, known as carbon aria--morph.
