Societies that are inclined towards the individualist culture, for instance the United States of America along with the Western part of Europe, give emphasis to personal accomplishment at the cost of collective goals, resultant in a powerful sense of opposition. Whereas, on the other hand, Cultures that are Collectivist, for instance countries like Japan, China as well as Korea, put emphasis on the family as well as work group aspirations.

Collectivism along with individualism intensely saturates cultures. People of nearly all the communities merely take the culture's bearing for granted. In Japan, China as well as Korea collectivism is the main part of the culture and people highly appreciate and follow this, however, due to the raid changes in the era there have been various changes brought by the youth.

Individualism, as well as collectivism is so intensely penetrated in a society all across the globe that it shapes an individual as well as a group's self-conception along with their identities. Both the cultures that are the collectivist as well as the individualist have their own deteriorating with the passage of time. When asked by any person randomly in Japan, it is often heard that Japanese culture, its society as well as its people are collectivists.

As per the culture of Japan, collectivism involves a spotlight on the impression of harmony or synchronization; for instance people act like everybody around them so as to maintain an excellent relationship, reliance for instance one rely on others within the social context around them and tend to follow them, reserve or limit; for instance, people do not tend to be firm on their personal opinions or even judgments.

On the other hand, some of the Japanese people tend to believe that they belong to the individualist's society. Nevertheless, Japanese society is of the belief that they should protect themselves and not worry about other people within the community or society. Such as, in school when someone bullies a student, other people will only look at them, since the onlookers do not wish to be bullied; therefore they stay away from others matter. Here, researchers are of the belief that this thought makes the society of Japan somewhat related towards the individualist culture. However, the authentic meaning of the word collectivism is dissimilar to the idea that the Japanese people, as well as their society and culture impose.
