Introduction

This is a paper discussing over identify and addressing the effects of substance abuse on the lives of people with psychiatric disabilities, use the assessment tools and methods for identifying the effects of substance abuse and psychiatric disability on social, cognitive functioning, and vocational functioning. This paper will also highlight over by identifying and addressing dynamics within the family or social support network which affect recovery of these individuals going through the dual disorders, and incorporate into their current work settings a variety of assessment and treatment techniques reflecting to be effective with individuals experiencing a dual diagnosis. Finally, this paper will also highlight and indicate who is able to actively participate in team approach to community-based services for individuals experiencing a psychiatric disability complicated by substance abuse or dependence (Gabbard, 2007).

Often these mental disorders are such things as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, bipolar and dissociative disorders. It is important to understand that beha7vioral problems with drugs and alcohol addictions are not a sign of dual diagnosis treatment and better treatment of addiction is common.

Dual-diagnosis refers to the presence of both a serious psychiatric illness and drug addiction. Integrated dual diagnosis treatment has been shown that actually work for people with both diseases. In this treatment model, a doctor or treatment team provides both mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Many dual diagnosis treatment centers in the United States offer integrated dual diagnosis treatment (Drake, Mercer-M., & McHugo, 1998)

When people with mental illnesses, we are developing too sensitive to problems related to alcohol and drug use. This is the definition of a dual diagnosis. We tend to drugs and alcohol for the same reasons that people without a mental disorder, but we are often vulnerable to the negative effects of alcohol and drugs.

The result is that one of the two persons with severe mental illness has the additional problem of drug abuse (abuse or dependence on alcohol or other drugs). Most of us can achieve with a dual diagnosis recovery, and our lives are much better if we repair. A full and meaningful life without drugs or alcohol requires time, support, education, courage, and learning new skills.
