CHAPTER: 01
Introduction
Law enforcement officers have admitted aspects of their jobs dissatisfy them and a major component of this dissatisfaction is leadership that can be directly or indirectly traced to the organizational setting. Leaders may contribute to the occupational challenges experienced by law enforcement officers through various direct and indirect behaviors. Previous research on potential leadership among law enforcement agencies in US suggests, there may be a disconnect between the perceptions of what causes or contributes to best practices in law enforcement as seen by the law enforcement officers versus that seen by their supervisors. (Conger, 2003)
A closer examination of these specific perceptions related to potential leadership in law enforcement would assist law enforcement leadership to understand how to implement best practices in the law enforcement organizations as well as to mitigate deficiencies more effectively. An overview of the research methodology and design appropriateness is also included. The research question is introduced, as is the theoretical framework for the research. The definitions, assumptions, scope, limitations, and delimitations related to the research are discussed. (Bass, 2003)

Leadership with great potential helps in reducing stress and can prevent the loss of trained and experienced officers. Developing not only a potential leadership of law enforcement agencies, but also how to magnify the impact of such leadership, is important to the success of the law enforcement ...
