Abstract

From the birth of a child to the phase of his upbringing to the age when he turns into a complete person, he comes across many relations like siblings, grandparents, relatives, friends, etc. Despite of this fact, there are two people who form the foundations of his character and personality and guide them throughout his life and enlighten his way to success. Mother and father, combined become the inspiration for him to grow from an infant to an adolescent and then to a mature, fully developed person who is complete in his individuality and is ready to face the challenges of practical life. This paper emphasizes on the fact that if any of a child's parents is absent during his upraise then he has to suffer a great deal-confused mind, incomplete personality, lack of confidence, adaption to false deeds, etc. Both, the mother and the father are equally important in building the conscience of their child and giving him a significant identity in the society.

Introduction

When one gets married, then we say that they have entered into a new phase of their life-life in which everything is supposed to be shared to lead a happy, successful life. By this we mean, sharing the pleasure, the grief, the responsibilities and every other thing equally between themselves.

Mothers are normally considered as the first school for a child where the child learns, manners, etiquettes, behaviors with different people, in different situations and the conduct to live in a society. Whereas, fathers instruct their children to be dependable, responsible and courageous, educate them to take decisions wisely and teach them to maintain a calm, healthy environment at home.

Parents' Role in Developing the Individuality of a Child

The experiences of one's parents serve as the beacon light as they grow up and come across different phases of their life. Parents' role collectively, is to bring one up in such a way that they grow into a complete individual. It is however, a matter of fact that a child needs both a mother and a father at every step of his growth, so the parents are liable to share equal responsibility of their child in every walk of life. This would keep their child from adapting false deeds rather produce and deliver a creative and constructive personal to the society (Berg-Nielsen, Vikan & Dahl, 2002).

The small things children learn from their parents' day-to-day activities turn out to be great developments afterwards. For instance, when they help their mother while baking in the kitchen, they get to learn how to cook. When they go along with their father for camping out, they learn how to fish (Cox & Paley, 2003). This can happen only when they have a mother to teach them how to cook or when their father has enough time to take them out for camping.
