ABSTRACT
This Research analyzes the impact of the BP oil spill on corporate social responsibility in the oil sector; investigate the history, development and formation of corporate social responsibility in the oil sector, examine the definitions of corporate social responsibility and explore opportunities for oil companies to become more socially responsible. This research is founded on the secondary data. The research encompasses the publications, articles and similar studies accessible on the internet. Keeping in view the approach taken in earlier studies the research began with a broad analysis of the existing literature, and interned to analyze the impact BP oil spill on corporate social responsibility of oil industry

Background of the Study
There has been no agreement on whether a way of doing business with corporate social responsibility (CSR) can lead to a sustainable development that sustains and enhances the life of a world population. The UN World Conference on Development and the Environment, and the World Summit on Sustainable Development have fostered ideas of SD designed to meet the needs of present and future generations within nature's limitations. These ideas, in turn, were introduced into business, revitalizing the concept of CSR, which the World Business Council for Sustainable Development Report defines as the commitment of business to contribute to sustainable economic development, working with employees, their families, the local community and society at large to improve their quality of life. Despite contradictions, the idea of companies contributing to sustainability has placed CSR as one of the major issues for business in this century.
Furthermore, it has been argued that companies with a proactive approach towards sustainability will receive the benefits of innovation, first mover advantage and win-win stakeholders' relationships in their business.
