Abstract

This study provides an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of how workforce ethnic diversity impacts organizational effectiveness. This paper provides evidence to show that African-American men and women contribute significantly towards an organization's well being. Further, this study presents as to why organizations would be well adviced to encourage workforce diversity, over and above the minimal requirements mandated by the diversity laws. While, workforce diversity if not managed properly can create some issues in organizations: the benefits of a diversified workforce far any potential risks. Additionally, this research includes a discussion of the laws that prohibit discrimination based on race and ethnicity, gender and others.

Introduction

It has been observed through history that workplace diversity has been associated employment equity issues (Ebony magazine, 2005). Impact of diversity (African-American Men & Women) on organizational effectiveness is a topic of immense importance, current research indicates that diversity in the workplace can contribute to an organization's bottom line. When American were in the midst of the longest period of economic growth that its country has ever seen that was the period of the year 2000 and beyond, the gap between the "haves" and "have nots" continues to widen (Ethnicmajority.com). One of the reasons for this has been the lack of diversity in corporate America. By not developing a diverse workforce from the top down, African, Hispanic (Latino), and Asian Americans are unfairly relegated to lower-skilled, lower-pay positions and frequently are not able to fulfill the true potential.

Many corporations have recognized that diversity contributes to the bottom line. Bottom line is so vital for every organization. The net earnings or earning per share of an organization are referred to as bottom line. Bottom line for an organization can also be an ctivity that improves the profitability of the organization. Diversity means different when an organization prefers to hire an employee with a difference then this employee value the employer's belief on his or her competencies and trie hard to meet the objectives and goals set by the organization for him or her. Moreover, with a diversified workforce, organization posseses the capability and a chance to look at things from different facets this help in breaking the status quo and help organization to move towards innovation and creativeness which in turn increase the organization's profitability or bring improvement in the bottom line of the organization. Diversity goes beyond employment equity to promote an environment that places emphasis on differences and maximizes the potential of all employees.

Organizations that base its mission statements, slogans on an euitible workplace should support workforce diversity to ensure their organizational practices support its mission.Organizational culture should encourage and reward diversity efforts through the use of numerous, essential elements. These elements include a needs analysis, administrative and management support and commitment, education and training, culture and management system changes and continuous follow-up and evaluation.
