Introduction

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born beside Umtata on July 18, 1918. His dad was a tribal chieftan and when he died, young Nelson was groomed to become his replacement. He was educated at Methodist mission schools before assisting Fort Hare University College between 1938 and 1940, at which time he was expelled for taking part in a scholar boycott. He then travelled to Johannesburg, where he secured an apprenticeship in a regulation firm. At the identical time he studied for a BA and then a regulation stage by correspondence.

At the age of 20 four Mandela joined the African National Congress. During the Second World War Mandela, along with other young Africans set about taking the ANC note to the millions of smaller class very dark persons around South Africa. Speaking in court in his protection he stated these actions were the outcome of “a serene and sober evaluation of the political situation that had was drawn from after numerous years of tyranny, exploitation and oppression of my persons by the whites.” He was sentenced to life imprisonment on the Robben Island Maximum Security Prison.

Throughout his imprisonment Mandela refused to appeal. Throughout the 70s and 80s his imprisonment became a rallying issue for very dark resistance. Though out of outlook for decades, Mandela was still recognized as the foremost of the ANC. throughout the 80's he rejected some boasts of issue, all conditional on his renouncing certain beliefs. Finally he was issued on February 11, 1990.
