A hysterosalpingogram or HSG is considered as a very important test for evaluating the potential of female fertility. It is basically a radiology procedure that is mostly carried out in outpatient radiology facility or in the radiology department of a hospital. This test is used for examining to investigate the patency and form and size of the fallopian tubes and the structure of the uterine cavity. Injection of radio-opaque material into the cervical canal and fluoroscopy with image intensification is involved in this procedure. The result of this test are shows the bilateral filling of the fallopian tube and the filling of the uterine cavity with the injection material. Before this imaging evaluation for female infertility a clinical assessment is usually carried out. As tubal occlusion is considered as the main reason of creating unproductiveness in female, due to this the examination through radiation starts with hysterosalpingography for determining that either the condition of fallopian tubes. Discussion

Procedure

The procedure of this test involves the radio therapy using ionizating x-rays. It has to be performed in the follicular phase of the cycle which is contraindicated in pregnancy. This helps in the diagnosis of Asherman's syndrome, uterine malformations and tubal occlusion. It effectively helps in the improvement of infertile women. It improves the period of pregnancy. It is observed that when an HSG has been performed the pregnancy rates are increased in a cycle. Through this radiation, it becomes possible to unlock the tubes that are almost occluded by using catheters. This test is mostly performed with the help of radiographic contrast medium (dye) that is injected through the cervix and vagina into the uterine cavity. In such cases, when the fallopian tubes are not closed then it will be done ...
