Analytical Review of “Trafficked: The Diary of a Sex Slave” by Sibel Hodge

Introduction

In life or during the course of academics and sometimes just for the sake of pleasure we read a lot of books. There are some books that leave an ever lasting impression on us. These books give us handful of knowledge. On one hand where these books become the reason for us to get the knowledge and information on the other hand, these books also provide a forum to the writers to represent serious issues that are prevalent in a society and that need attention of the public. The aim and objective of this paper is also to undertake discussion about a book. For the purpose of this assignment the book that is selected for the analytical review is “Trafficked: The Diary of a Sex Slave”. This book is written by Sibel Hodge. The book was published in 2011 and got the attention of the people. The following part of the paper presents the analytical review of the book.

About the Author

The writer Sibel Hodge possesses the dual nationality of Britain and Turkey. The writer by profession is a fitness trainer, instructor and the massage therapist. Sibel is also a freelancing writer. She writes about the health, fitness and on various other topics of lifestyle related articles. She also writes novel. For her romantic novel she also has received Yeovil Literary Prize in the year 2008 (Jenifer, 2011).

Analytical Review

The book starts as a description of a character with the name of Elena. The whole content of the novel reveals in terms of daily diary of a girl who says that she used to be a normal human being but now she has been turned into a sex slave.

The novel suggests that human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery or in person trafficking, is a criminal act and a violation of basic human rights. The violations include activities like right to freedom, right to dignity, right to equal protection of the law that affects every country in the world. Victims of international trafficking are most often lured or taken from poor nations or conflict zones, also referred as “source” countries, and then pass through other “transit” countries before reaching their final destination (Hodge, 2011).

Human trafficking is defined as: recruitment, transportation, purchasing, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons by threat or use of violence kidnapping, fraud, deception, coercion (including, do the abuse of authority) or bonded debts, in order to place such per- person or retain, whether on a paid or not, or doing forced labor practices similar to slavery, in a community different from the person who lived in time of the act that led to his arrest. Human trafficking is an illegal form of modern-day slavery that violates human rights and the fastest growing international crime causing high risk of violence (Jenifer, 2011).
