Studying Human Behavior

To discuss human behavior related to investigating the relationship between alcohol and violence we use the experimental design method. By this we will chart out the relationship as to what is the reference between the two things. Here below is the brief description of what the method is.

Experimental Design:

An experimental design is one in which participants are randomly assigned to levels of the independent variable. As we saw in our discussion of random assignment, experimental designs preferred when the goal is to make cause-and-effect conclusions because they reduce the risk that the results could be due to a confounding variable. Random assignment is not an option for these variables, but we still want to make cause-and-effect inferences. Experiments designed to maximize internal validity (confidence in cause-and-effect conclusions) despite being unable to assign. At the outset, it is important to know that quasi-experiments tend to have lower secret validity than actual experiments (Frederic & McBrewster, 2009).

Types Of Validity:

Internal and External Validity Some types of experimental design for both lab experiments and quasi-experiments may be conducted without a control group; the threats to internal and external validity of such experiments are substantial. Such randomization is monumental in reducing threats to internal validity by attempting to isolate any variations. It is done between the groups that are due to chance and not due to any given treatment performed. The pretest-posttest with the control group design is the most commonly used an experimental design due to its recognized strength in controlling threats to internal validity (Coon, 2005).

Potential Flaws:

The principal flaws to quasi-experimental designs are confounding variables: variables other than the independent variable that,

(a) Tend to vary with the independent variable and

(b) Seems plausible causes of the dependent variable Impact (Frederic & McBrewster, 2009)

Ethical Considerations:

Since it is an experimental research, therefore it will be observing human behavior. But you have to manage an effort not to affect personal lives of the people. Secondly, not to disclose the personal information related to people's addiction.

Operant Conditioning and Reinforcements

Positive Reinforcement:

Positive reinforcement is an amplifier through which an increase in the probability of occurrence of the behavior. Follows the behavior of a worthwhile event (amplifier), there is an undeniable consequence. A good example of this would be that a child getting a reward of chocolates every time he cleans up his room. As a consequence, the probability that he would clean his room would increase due to the factor of reward or positive reinforcement. Other examples learning behavior include praising (Coon, 2005).

Negative Reinforcement:

Negative reinforcement is the act of increasing the probability of the occurrence of behavior by the removal of a negative stimulus. Negative modifiers can be removing noise, glare, heat or cold shock or any other unpleasant stimulus. An example would be the threat of parents to cancel a child's festival provided that the homework is not completed. This threat is not realized, because the child does his ...
