Surreal Dreamscapes and Modernism

Introduction

Modernism is a typically urban aesthetic style. It finds some ways more sophisticated than those offered by industrial production, combining functionality and beauty in an attempt to create a pleasant, elegant, modern and cheerful. It is an expression with a strong bourgeois inspired ornamental in nature, flora and fauna.

Design is of great importance and the desire to integrate all the arts, making the buildings of Modernist architecture works very attractive. In terms of architectural approaches, it is to use new materials to the ultimate consequences, not only for its utility space but also for its expressive possibilities, instead of copying classical forms. Inspiration was sought in the processes and forms of nature. This admiration for nature is not limited to the decor but also to the plant and the building structure, conceived as a coherent living organism in its entirety.

Modern architecture is the result of the economic, social and psychological caused by the scientific revolution of the nineteenth and twentieth century, but it becomes movement in precise line of thought and action only when, during the first postwar - acquires distinctive features of scientific research . Modern architecture, not only adopts the contents of modern science, but also the method of work: the organization of experience, the ability to incorporate the successive contributions, the monitoring of results.

Discussion

In the beginning of 20th Century, the architectural modernism movement was noticeable as an outcome of developed social values and technologies. During the century, the modernism movement was spawned several obvious sub movements like Postmodernism of 1960s, International styles (1920s- 1960s) and Bauhaus (1919-1933).

Several features of these sub movements regarding modernism are taken into consideration as hostile, plain and lifeless. This is because of the fact that modernism is an emergence resulted from changing principles of societies. The customs and traditions were not gripped and the complex grand architecture of 19th century was not accepted favoring to turn out as machines for living in. A little identified but an intricate sub movements regarding modernism that is fascinatingly against several common features as stated above, developed in the 20th century as Surrealism. Surrealism is direction in the art created in 1924 in France, initially appearing exclusively in the literature, and later in the visual arts, film and theater.
