CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Art Deco is an artistic style that appeared in France in the early 1920s, in reaction against Art Nouveau which is alleged to be a passing fancy designed to reach all sectors of industrial design in failing to adjust its aesthetic standards functional requirements. Art Deco is a hugely influential art movement especially in architecture and design, but in fact relates more or less all forms of art. Art Deco takes its name from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925. The style is affirmed by a simple use of volumes and planes, geometric inspired research avant-garde Cubists, Futurists and Constructivists. This is the time when an ever larger discovers realizing the speed, power and energy into plastic terms, the affirmation of pure color, like the analytic objectivism. From a practical point of view, cities destroyed after the First World War needed to be rebuilt. The city of Reims for example, 80% destruction during the war, was largely rebuilt in Art Deco architectural style. Tower Brewing Museum of French brasserie in Saint-Nicolas-de-Port is a fine example of Art Deco industrial architecture. In Lyon, Tony Garnier built: the Gerland stadium, the great hall, but the Hospital Edouard Herriot and the district of the United States. Both forms of Art Nouveau are undulating, and detailed follow the example of nature, as Art Deco looks to sleek and geometric shapes. The curve is still very present at the beginning of this movement gradually disappears in favor of the right angle, especially with the current De Stijl.

The Architecture: Tony Garnier, Auguste Bluysen, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret (Le Corbusier) and his brother, Robert Mallet-Stevens.
Design: interior design Aubette (Strasbourg). Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Amedee Ozenfant.
The Pictorial Art: Tamara de Lempicka Art Deco period is directly related to the boyish term for the emancipation of woman and introducing the woman above the man in the 1920s. The word comes from the novel of the same name written by Victor Margueritte. From skyscrapers and movie houses to gas stations and private homes, the idea of using icons in architecture became the height of fashion.
