Introduction

The professeion of nursing plays a pivotal and centralized role in the health care system of any country. It has been reported to be one of the largest health care occupation group with around 2.4 billion registered nurses (Royal College of Nursing, 2003). The health conditions and the treatment depends upon how well trained, qualified and competent our nurses are when it comes to dealing with different types of patients. This profession must have leaders with vision, education and commitment towards providing the people with best health care services. Such leaders not only provide for qualified and trained nurses for safe healthcare practise but also protect the rights of the nursing professionals and patients. Every health care system needs such leaders in the nursing profession to safeguard and protect the rights of its public health and provide important feedback with regards to improvement in the health care policies and system. Florence Nightingale emphasized on the importance of providing quiet, clean and ventilated environment that will support and provide comfort to the patient necessary for the recovery process of the patient. On the other hand International Council of Nursing has defined nursing as “Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings. Nursing includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people. Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy and in patient and health systems management, and education are also key nursing roles” (Funnell et.al, 2008).

Discussion

The main purpose of nursing is to provide for the healing, development, health and growth of the patient in order to avoid injury, illness and disability. It is the very basic duty of the nurses to reduce stress of the client. In cases where the patient is about to die, the nurses must maintain the good quality of life till the incident takes place.

Potter and Perry has defined as a professional nurse's approach to identify, diagnose, and treat human responses to health and illness. Mush importance has been given to the process of assessment. The authors have presented with variety of ways to collect important information and data for making the right diagnosis based on the correct assessment of the patient. The assessment has been defined as a process of systematic validation, collection and communication of important data that related to the condition or disease of the patient. It is very important to employ different types of sources for the data collection process and make sure that the information is complete in all sense so that the assessment can be done and correct diagnosis could be made for treatment of the patient.
