Homeland Security as defined by the National Strategy for Homeland Security as “national efforts to prevent terrorist attacks within the nation of United States” the various elements of this definition are. Terrorism- Homeland security is the joint efforts by the local government, federal state, the private sector, by individuals in order to prevent the attacks within the nation. All Hazards- it is a joint effort to disrupt the terrorist attacks, safeguard against the man made hazards, and respond to the incidents that may occur (Noftsinger, 2007). Terrorism and Catastrophes- it is what the homeland security department does to prevent, respond and recover from the terrorist events that destroy the national security of United States. This homeland security is in place from many years and is growing and getting matured year by year. The aim and objective of this paper is to talk about the future of homeland security.
The Functioning of Homeland Security
The homeland security was incepted by the national research council, which proposed the establishment of an institution in order to gain access to the crucial capabilities which will ensure an informed decision making following any incident. There are various measures that are currently in play by the federal government to improve the homeland security. Since attacks of the nuclear or biological devices and outbreaks of a pandemic disease pose a serious risk; therefore, the government focuses on reducing them through ensuring that the decision makers have suitable tools to manage these risk and diseases. It is made possible through the health care providers, public health agencies, and the hospitals. Beside this, the nuclear security is strengthened through nuclear detection architecture. It ensures that the nation's nuclear resources are secure (Morgan, 2003).
On the other hand, gathering effective intelligence sharing is crucial to the security.
