Introduction

The chaotic events of the 60's, including war and social change, would seem unreal not to continue in the 70's and the more conservative 1980s and 1990s, . Major trends included a growing disillusionment of government, from the "Sexual Revolution" to radical left-wing activism, advances in civil rights, increased influence of the women's movement, a greater concern for the environment, and increased space exploration. Many of the "radical" ideas of the 60's gained wider acceptance in the new decade, and were mainstreamed into American life and culture.

The 1980's marked an jolting shift towards more conservative lifestyles after the culture revolutions which took place in the 1960's and 1970's and the definition of the AIDS virus in 1981. This decade has been somewhat derided since its closing for its perceived "Greed" among Yuppies, certain clothes/music/hairstyles which seem crazy now , overall high crime rates in many countries, and of course the onset of the AIDS virus in the early part of the decade. While true to some extent, events and trends of the 1980's contributed greatly towards toppling the Soviet Union and European Communism in the last months of the decade, and the 1980's saw very rapid developments in numerous sectors of technology which have defined the 20th century as a whole.

The 1990's did a complete turn , l with Explosive growth of the Internet; decrease in the cost of computers and other technology , Cloning of Dolly, the sheep, while many things were happening with the Military aspect as in Reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990 ,Gulf War and United Nations embargo on Iraq in 1991 Break up of the Soviet Union in 1991 - the end of the Cold War, United States as sole world superpower. Debate over Military actions in Somalia lead to questions of the United States' role as a policing officer of the world. The bombing of the World Trade Center by an explosive-filled van leads to awareness of international terrorism as a rising threat. End of apartheid in South Africa and European Union is declared in , and by 1998 U.S. president Bill Clinton's sex scandal with Monica Lewinsky and his impeachment trial in was revealed , which lasts the entire year. I would say that through the 30 years , military has gotten in some ways more sympethetic and in others more hard headed.
