Influence of Hispanic Heritage

During my first attempt at college as I was still a young boy, I had great pent up anger and antagonist towards what I recognized to be a methodically cruel societal formation bent on repeatedly holding back all minorities, thus assuring a repeated sub level class of individuals indentured to provide the requirement of the elite upper class. This was throughout the seventies and there was much talk of communal and aggressive revolution. It was a time when enormous men such as Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez were presenting the method through non-violent inert expression, using indisputable dangerous thinking to bring about genuine change.

My mother, Cecilia Zamora, was profoundly engaged in this movement of Cesar Chavez, I can apparently recall going to numerous marches round San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland with my mother and younger brother to work in kitchens to feed the thousands of marchers searching better compensation for migrant ranch workers. We warmed thousands of tortillas and assisted up endless ladles of frijoles for those that had even less than we. My pride would enlarge while enclosed by the throngs of strong, brown men and women chanting for La Raza and vocalising Mexican songs while signalling banners with fantastical images of Mayan Gods and skimpily dressed, full breasted women in the arms of warriors. At these instants I was certain we were blessed by God as the utmost of all his creations, after all we were a beautiful persons, we were good to an obvious error, and there habitually appeared to be a larger power displaying us a way through hard times.
