HEALTH PROMOTION PROPOSAL

Health Promotion Proposal

Abstract

The purpose of this research study will be to develop a health promotion research proposal. In this study we will consider the issue of anti-smoking health warnings in cinemas. It's hard to imagine Casablanca's Rick Blaine without smoke swirling around his face as he grows increasingly morose. But anti-smoking activists argue that 60-plus years after that classic movie was made—long before the Surgeon General issued a warning on the dangers of tobacco—it's time for movies to lose the smoke. Tomorrow, the issue of whether Hollywood glamorizes smoking, and thus encourages teens to adopt the habit, will be the subject of a Senate Commerce Committee hearing called by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev. "Children are being influenced by the presence of smoking in movies," argued Ensign's rep, Jack Finn.

Purpose of the Study

The reason of the research program will be to consider the relation effectiveness of distinct kinds of notes and distinct methods of anti-smoking advertisements (for brandish in cinemas) with distinct subgroups of adolescents.

Background of the Study

A research program proposal for anti-smoking wellbeing warnings in movies has been evolved and estimated cost for concern under the 2005-06 Cost Shared Funding Model Proposals for the Ministerial Council on Drug Strategy (MCDS). At the May 2005 MCDS gathering, Ministers:

noted the data supplied on the correlates of adolescent fuming behaviors and susceptibility to fuming in movies, and the reconsider of preceding tests of anti-smoking wellbeing advertisements in cinemas; and

agreed that a research proposal be evolved and estimated cost by IGCD, in discussion with juvenile persons, NSW Cancer Institute, Cancer Councils, Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), The Australian Medical Association (AMA), QUIT, Office of Film and Literature Classification and the movie industry.
