Smoking Addiction and Cessation

Introduction

Tobacco use is the habit or addiction from tobacco smoke, i.e. to burn the dry leaf of the plants of tobacco and inhale the smoke in order to get pleasure or for derived ritual purpose. The practice, in ritual (calumet), was ordinary amongst Native American people and in the Southern American parts and got shortly commenced in the other parts of the globe through trade after the discovery of the American regions by Europeans. The Cigarette is currently for the largest part a familiar way to smoke tobacco. The smoke from tobacco, in addition to the usual components of incomplete combustion (smoke), contains nicotine, an alkaloid stimulant that can delude the smoker to get a temporary improvement of memory, of mood and speed of reflexes, but generates also a strong dependence on chemical, physical and psychological. Smoking is one of the major factors that contribute to health problems, especially cancer of lungs, cardiovascular diseases and the emphysema. A number of countries have regulated or restricted the sales of tobacco and its advertisements of the same, when permitted, and packaging is required the inclusion of warnings about the risks to the consumer. Furthermore, the paper discusses smoking in a holistic context along with a brief discussion on the methods of smoke consumption.

Moreover, the habit was considered negative for the ideal citizen of Nazi Germany: tobacco was defined as “a relic of liberal lifestyle” and “lung masturbation” (Proctor, 2000, Pp. 179). The strong anti-smoking campaign also reached in some localities to prohibit the purchase of cigarettes by women, with the intent to discourage their ...
