MEDICARE is the federal health insurance program for the aged and disabled. Congress established Medicare in 1965 as the title XVIII of the Social Security Act. Currently codified at 42 USCA Sections 1395 et seq. Pub.L. Number 89-97, 79 Stat. 291.
