Informative Speech on “Promoting Physical Activity in College Students”
Introduction
Good morning to everyone today at this valued occasion in front of my colleagues and respected teacher I would like to give a speech on a very serious topic which is of a concern. It is a a source of concern and yet being ignored and further ignorance can lead to a bleak future. It is the importance of promoting physical activity in College Students. Thus, I would like to highlight the advantages of the promotion of physical activity in students which most of the people are not taking it seriously.
Thesis Statement
Promotion of physical activity in college students leads to a healthy life
Current Scenario
Recent studies have also shown that the there are around 20 to 35 percent of college students who are said to be overweight based on the body mass index however it was also revealed that around 60 to 70 percent of the students belonging to the undergraduates are said to be at a healthy weight but at the same time are prone to obesity if they do not continue maintaining as well as sustaining their healthy lifestyle.
The research also concluded that despite the growing numbers in obesity and health risk there are only 40 percent of the people who are keen on exercising and keeping themselves healthy. And there are around 30 percent of the people who don't exercise and neither is involved in sports. This in turn communicates that more than half of the entire college does not exercise and do not meet the minimum requirement of 15 minutes of physical exercise by any means. It was also concluded that higher rate were found in other minorities then in Caucasian. It was further analyzed that more of females were inclined towards physical inactivity than males. Quantitatively, females were at a percentage of 22 to 48 percent that reported inactivity and males ranged from 10 to 37 percent. Either way, regardless of the gender, the unhealthy attitudes towards life is alarming or that the generation which is the future of the country should be enlightened about the way obesity can ruin their lives in the long run (Odgen, 1999).
Advantages of Physical Activity
In order to ensure that the college students are inclined towards more of physical activity which is 150 minutes a rather than being idle is to enlighten them about the benefits. A physical activity has been defined as bodily movements that is said to be produced by skeletal muscles which eventually results in energy expenditure. Routine based or regular exercises can lead to many benefits that are not only confined to controlling the weight but it also entails:
