Abstract

This study provides detailed analysis of the aviation accidents and cargo damages due to the hazardous chemical substances. This study mainly focused on the study of ValuJet Airlines flight 592 and different other similar accidents. This study highlights the various safety issues associated with the flight operations and also cargo safety system. This study discussed in detail the problems associated with the maintenance and regulations of these flight operations. This study discussed in detail different safety measures taken by the FAA for the regulation of aviation and cargo safety. This study discussed in detail various measures associated with the carriage of oxygen generators which is the main reason of these accidents.

Introduction

Value Jet Crash in May, 11th, 1996 was one of the worst crashers which diverts the attention of aviation authority towards the proper measures for the aviation technology. The plane was crashed only after ten minutes of takeoff. All the pilots and crew and passengers were killed. On investigation it was found that the accident was due to the failure proper maintenance one of the main reason was the fire in D class cargo compartment. There are various other reasons for it which created the problem in the SabreTech packaging and other managing issues. The report conducted on the causes of accident reveals that there were some chemical oxygen generators which resulted in the problem for the Value Jet carriage. According to the safety rules of planes there is no such material allowed to be carried without any proper measures. Another problem was that Value Jet did not considered proper checking before taking off. It is not only this single case but there are various other such plane crashes and issues due to the failure and neglect of proper maintenance. It is also noticed that in most of the cases there is lack of proper maintenance training which resulted in the neglect and eventually to such worst consequences (Emmanuel et al, 2012).

The value Jet case reveals that there is violation of the precaution for not carrying the hazardous material on plane. Another major concern was the security of the cargo area to ensure that no such hazardous material should be carried to the plane. There was also problem of mishandling the company material. There were various researchers conducted for the proper maintenance and research system. This is provided as the problems with the research and maintenance activities in the proper system. All these problems and issues were later reported to the concerned authorities of FAA, RSPA, U.S Portal Services and Air Transport services.
